When you are a solo business owner doing all the sales, you likely have a good sense of your business’s mission.
Or maybe you’re the first hire in a sales department and you understand the basics of the business’s mission.
But, when it comes to pursuing sales opportunities, it can be all too easy to bend standards when it comes to accepting a high paying client.
At first, it may feel like a win, but when you bend your standards, even high paying clients can turn into clients from hell.
This is where a written mission statement comes in.
When developing your business, especially when scaling your sales process, it is important to make sure you have a solid foundation.
A solid mission statement is essential to this.
A mission statement has three components: Why, How, & What
As per Simon Sinek’s “Start With Why” Speech, you start with Why, then work on How, then finish with What.
Here’s a breakdown of those three components:
WHY: what do you believe?
HOW: how do your beliefs show up in the world?
WHAT: what product(s) / service(s) / category(s) do you provide to your customers?
For Example:
At SalesStrategy.ca, We believe that ethical businesses positively impact their Community, Country, and World.
We help you do that by providing sales strategy and systems for your business. Our salespeople are skilled and help businesses actualize their potential by growing their sales pipeline and helping them close sales.
You can hire us for Group or 1on1 sales training/coaching or hire us to provide our done-for you sales service.
On the Sales side, once you have a clear mission statement, you can use the mission statement to help you decide who your ideal customer or “Dream Client” is.
Stay away from clients from hell. Focus on Dream clients.
Not only will you as a salesperson be much happier, but your operations department will be way happier with you.
A mission statement give you and your sales team clear guidelines to follow and not deviate from.
